Wataru Endo (born 9 February 1993) is a Japanese international footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Liverpool.

Liverpool career

At the beginning of the 2023-24 season, Liverpool had lost a lot of their midfield experience. Captain and vice-captain, Jordan Henderson and James Milner had left the club, and they were joined out of the exit door by Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai Were brought in to rejuvenate the side, but this left Thiago as the only midfield option above the age of 24.

Liverpool started their campaign with a draw away to Chelsea, with no senior defensive midfielder in the team leaving their defence exposed. Three days later, reports began to emerge about interest in the experienced Endo, who captained both VFB Stuttgart and the Japanese international team.

On 18 August 2023, it was confirmed that Endo had signed for the club, for a reported fee of £15,400,000. It was announced that he would take the number 3 shirt, recently vacated by Fabinho. A day later, he made his Liverpool debut, coming on as a second half substitute in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
