Stephen Derek "Steve" Heighway (born 25 November 1947) is a retired footballer who played for Liverpool between 1970 to 1981.

Liverpool career

Heighway was a latecomer to the professional game, focusing on his studies whilst playing for non-league sides. He was eventually spotted by Liverpool's scouting system whilst playing for Skelmersdale United, and at the age of 22, was signed by Bill Shankly in May 1970. He made an instant adjustment to the professional game, and featured heavily in his debut season. His debut came on 29 August 1970 against West Brom, when he replaced Peter Thompson as a substitute in the 63rd minute. His first start came in the following month, on 22 September 1970 in a League Cup second round replay against Mansfield. The pacey left winger scored his first goal for Liverpool against Burnley on 17 October 1970.
