Liverpool statistics

Sam Gainford (born 14 November 1994) is an English footballer who played for the Liverpool Academy and Reserves as a midfielder.

Liverpool careerEdit

Liverpool recruited winger Gainford at the age of 10, and he progressed through the Academy ranks to become a first year scholar with the under-18s for the 2011-12 Academy Under 18s season having tallied an impressive number of goals and assists with the Under 16s. Gainford- described by the Liverpool coaching staff as a 'tricky winger'- is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield line- comfortable on either flank and capable in the centre. He began to frequent the starting XI for the Under 18s in the 2011-12 season, and also made the matchday squad for the Reserves during their season. He continued to appear regularly for the U18s at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, mostly being used in an attacking capacity. He racked up 15 appearances and scored two goals, and also played three matches in the NextGen Series. However Gainford's gametime dwindled as the season drew to a close, and in the summer of 2013, he was released by Liverpool.
