Rhys Williams (born 3 February 2001) is an English footballer who plays as a defender for Liverpool, having come through the academy.

Liverpool career

Williams joined the Liverpool Academy at ten years old, and gradually rose through the ranks. In the 2017-18 season, the youngster became a regular in the U18s side, impressing under Steven Gerrard's tutelage.

In the following season, Williams was a key member of the FA Youth Cup winning squad, starting in the final victory over Manchester City. He was then sent out on loan for the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign.

On 24 September 2020, Williams made a surprise debut for the Reds, starting in a 7-2 League Cup victory over Lincoln, and impressing next to Virgil van Dijk. He kept his place for the following round, but was on the losing side as Arsenal prevailed on a penalty shootout.

In the midst of a massive injury crisis in the centre of defence, Williams became an important member of the squad, and started to have major involvement in the first-team. On 3 November, he started in a big Champions League tie away to Atalanta, and put in a very impressive performance, keeping a clean-sheet in a 5-0 victory. As the season winded down, partnering with Nat Phillips, both of them were instrumental in keeping Liverpool's Champions League hopes alive as Liverpool secured a 3rd place finish at the end of the 20/21 season,
