Niall Heaton (born 25 June 1996) is an English footballer who played as a defender for the Liverpool Academy.
Liverpool career[]
Liverpool signed the then-14 year old centre back Heaton from Bradford City in March 2011. Heaton became the third youth signing Liverpool had made from Bradford in recent years, following the arrivals of Andre Wisdom and Calum Pilkington. Heaton spent his first full season at Liverpool with the Under 16s, for whom he was a mainstay at central defence. He was promoted to the Under 18s for the 2012-13 season, and made his competitive debut for the side on 1 September 2012 in an unfortunate 2-0 defeat to Manchester City. Heaton had a fine season for the U18s, amassing 16 appearances in total, however he was unable to convince Liverpool to keep him beyond the season and he was released in the summer of 2013.
Playing style[]
Heaton is commended by Liverpool as a "strong, powerful defender" with an excellent reading of the game.
