Liverpool career[]

Liverpool signed Jones from Plymouth Argyle on 10 June 2011 after the young centre back impressed whilst on trial at the end of the 2010-11 season. Liverpool paid Plymouth a six-figure compensation fee for Jones, beating off competition from Merseyside rivals Everton for his signature. He spent most of the 2011-12 season with the Under 16s, but made his Under 18s debut on 21 April 2012 in a 3-2 loss against Newcastle. In May 2012, Jones was rewarded for his impressive progress with the Academy with a professional contract, which will see him complete 12 further months as an apprentice before entering two years as a professional.

Jones was moved into the Under 18s squad for the 2012-13 season was also named in the youth squad to take part in the season's NextGen Series. The season proved a breakthrough for Jones who's acclaimed displays for the U18s and U19s in the NextGen Series brought him to the attention of the U21s. With slots opening up at centre back due to injury to Jakub Sokolik and the promotion of Andre Wisdom to the first team, Jones was brought into the fold for the U21s in the new year and played a number of games for the side, impressing throughout the season.

Jones' form brought him a place on the substitute's bench for the senior squad in an away League tie against Fulham on 12 May 2013. He was handed shirt number 51 for the occasion. At the end of the season, Jones signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. Jones appeared more times than any other player for the U21s during the 2013-14 season, competing in 21 of the team's 22 games. With Conor Coady away on loan, Jones eventually became entrusted with the captaincy of the U21s.

Jones moved on loan to League Two side Cheltenham Town for the month of January 2015 alongside Jack Dunn and Kevin Stewart. At the end of the month, Jones' move was extended until the end of the season.

On 10 July 2015, Jones was sent out on loan to League 1 side Blackpool on a youth loan deal, but suffered an injury early on in the season, meaning he didn't play as often as he liked.

In August 2016, Jones signed a new extension to his contract and was immediately sent out on a season long loan to Swindon Town.

On 31 January 2018, it was confirmed that Jones had signed for Luton Town, on a permanent deal.
