Krisztián Adorján (born 19 January 1993) is a Hungarian footballer who played for Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool career[]

Adorjan joined the Academy in the summer of 2009 from MTK Hungaria, following in the footsteps of former Liverpool Reserves striker, Krisztián Németh. He had an impressive first season with the Reds and scored on his debut against Wolves in the FA Youth Cup. Adorjan signed professional terms with Liverpool in August 2010, committing himself to the club until 2013.

Adorjan played for the Academy largely as a second striker, and whilst he did show an eye for goal himself, he was prolific with assists. He is not a pacy footballer, however he has been described as having a good "speed of thought" that compensates for this. In the 2010-11 FA Academy Premier League Group C, Adorjan made 18 assists in 23 appearances, more than any other Academy player. He also netted 9 goals in 27 appearances. This form saw him break into the Liverpool Reserve team. In the 2011-12 Reserves season, Adorjan found himself playing in a deeper midfield role than he was used to from his Academy days, however he racked up an impressive 27 appearances and scored three goals.

In July 2012, new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers brought Adorjan on the first team's pre season tour of the USA. Adorjan made his debut for the senior side in the 1-1 draw against Toronto, and then got more game time four days later against Roma. Adorjan returned from the tour and took his place with the U21s, and appeared rejuvinated. He was one of the star performers during the 2012-13 Reserves season as he scored 12 goals from 31 games. He was given opportunities to train at Melwood and even accompany the senior side on some of their matchdays during the season, however he failed to make his competitive debut and lamented at the end of the season that his chances of ever breaking into the first team were only '20-30%.' On 6 July 2013, Dutch club Groningen announced that they had handed a trial to Adorjan with a view to a possible permanent transfer. Groningen announced on 23 July 2013 that they had taken Adorjan on loan for the 2013-14 season, reportedly with an option to make the deal permanent.

He returned at the end of the season with seemingly no deal in place, and competed in Liverpool's 2014-15 pre-season friendlies. On 1 September 2014, Adorjan signed permanently for Italian Serie C side Novara Calcio.

Notes[]

  • Aged 18, Adorjan appeared on the Liverpool F.C. official site in the June 2011 edition of an article series called "One to Watch," which outlined six very gifted young players from Liverpool's academy.
