Jeremie Agyekum Frimpong (born 10 December 2000) is a Dutch international footballer who currently plays as a defender for Liverpool, signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025.
Liverpool career[]
Throughout the 2024-25 season, speculation mounted over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Englishman’s contract set to expire in the summer.
Frimpong had come through the Manchester City academy and made his senior debut at Celtic, helping his side to a treble in his first campaign. After a couple of seasons at Scotland he moved to Bayer Leverkusen, where he rose to stardom under the management of former Red, Xabi Alonso. In the 2023-24 season, Leverkusen managed an unbeaten Bundesliga title, as well as a win in the Cup, with Frimpong excelling in attack.
After Liverpool secured the Premier League title, Alexander-Arnold’s departure was confirmed. Soon after, reports began to emerge of interest in Frimpong, with a low release clause making him a potential bargain.
On 30 May 2025, it was confirmed that Frimpong had agreed to join Liverpool for a reported fee of £29,500,000. The transfer was completed two days later. The Dutchman joined a contingent of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as head coach Arne Slot.
Frimpong made his Liverpool debut on 13 July 2025, in a 3-1 friendly win over Preston. On 1 August it was announced he would wear the number 30 shirt, last worn by Suso over a decade ago.
On 10 August 2025, Frimpong made his Liverpool debut, starting in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace. After 21 minutes, Frimpong scored his first goal for the club, dinking in a cross from the right flank that was fortunate to float above the goalkeepers head. Despite this, the Reds lost to Palace after a penalty shootout.
