Ibrahima Konate (born 25 May 1999) is a French international footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Liverpool.

Liverpool career

During the 2020-21 season, Liverpool suffered an unprecedented injury crisis in the heart of their defence, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all ruled out for the majority of the season. New signings were brought in as short-term fixes in the January window, but it was clear that reinforcements were necessary in the summer.

Towards the backend of the season, reports began to mount that Liverpool were in the hunt for Konate, with the RB Leipzig defender rumoured to have a release clause. It became clear that the Reds were set to trigger the clause, and in April reports stated that the Frenchman was close to agreeing terms on a contract.

On 28 May 2021, it was officially confirmed that an agreement had been reached to bring Konate to Liverpool, for a fee of £36,000,000. The young defender officially joined the club on 1 July. On 7 July, he announced he would be wearing the number 5 shirt ahead of the 2021-22 season.
