Giovanni Leoni (born 21 December 2006) is an Italian footballer who currently plays as a defender for Liverpool, signing from Parma in 2025.

Liverpool career

After the departure of Jarell Quansah, Liverpool were left with just three senior options at centre-back. Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez were both frequently troubled by injury, so the Reds looked to the transfer market to bolster their ranks.

After a breakout season at Parma, Leoni had become one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Europe, being linked to a move away from the Italian side despite making just 17 appearances in his debut campaign.

In August 2025, rumours began to emerge of Liverpool's interest in Leoni, with reports claiming that the player wanted the move. Ahead of the opening day, Arne Slot confirmed that a deal had been agreed, but the signing had not yet been finalised.

On 15 August 2025, it was officially confirmed that Leoni had joined the club, for a reported fee of £26,000,000. The Italian took the number 15 shirt, last worn by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

A month later, Leoni made his Liverpool debut, starting in a 2-1 win over Southampton in the EFL Cup. Leoni put in a good display at Anfield, but had to be withdrawn through injury in the 81st minute.
