Roy Hodgson (born 9 August 1947) is an English football manager who managed Liverpool from 2010 to 2011. Hodgson came to Liverpool in the summer of 2010 from Fulham. He stayed with Liverpool until January 2011 when he was replaced by then caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish.
Liverpool career[]
Hodgson was appointed as Liverpool manager on 1 July 2010 on a three year contract. Hodgson showed a great deal of enthusiasm and pride in being named the manager, when he said "This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on the role of manager of Britain's most successful football club. I look forward to meeting the players and the supporters and getting down to work at Melwood".
His first match as manager was a friendly against Swiss club Grasshoppers on 21 July 2010, Liverpool drew the match. His first competitive match was a bigger success, with a 2-0 win over Rabotnicki in Europa League qualifying stages on 29 July 2010. Hodgson stamped his mark on the Liverpool squad, with the signings of Brad Jones, Paul Konchesky, Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen and Danny Wilson. His first few games in the league were mixed, recording a draw against Arsenal and a 3-0 defeat against Man City, before recording his first win - in a match against West Brom on 29 August 2010.
His form after this showed little improvement, and a 2-1 loss to Blackpool on 3 October 2010 made it the worst start to a season in 82 years. Shortly before this game on 23 September 2010, Liverpool sustained a penalty shootout defeat to League Two side Northampton, which was perhaps his lowest point as manager. With Liverpool languishing towards the bottom of the table by New Year, Roy Hodgson left the club by mutual consent on 8 January 2011. He was in charge for just 31 games, which is the shorest managerial tenure in Liverpool's history.
