Emmanuel Henry Gomis Mendy (born 30 March 1990) is a Senegalese professional footballer who played as a defender for the Liverpool Reserves from 2008 until 2012.
Liverpool career[]
Mendy signed for Liverpool on a free transfer from Murcia in July 2008, and was usually deployed in the reserves. In an interview with Liverepool TV, Mendy stated: "I can play right-back, left-back and centre half. I have enjoyed playing at centre half this season and I think I'm good at heading the ball. I like to tackle and always give my best in every game," highlighting his versatility. He also spoke of his delight of playing for Liverpool saying "Liverpool FC is famous throughout the world and it is a real honour to play for this club. It makes me and my family very proud."
Mendy played regularly for the reserves throughout his time at Liverpool, and was thought to have been held in high esteem by the Liverpool youth coaches. He was awarded a first team squad number for the 2010-11 season, however he was not able to retain this for the 2011-12 season. Despite his impressive performances, he was not able to extend his stay on Merseyside beyond his contract and was released in the summer of 2012.
