El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf (born 15 January 1981) is a Senegalese footballer who played for Liverpool as a striker from 2002 to 2005.
Liverpool career[]
In 2002, it was confirmed that Diouf had signed for Liverpool after impressive performances for his country in the 2002 World Cup. On 24 August 2002, Diouf made his home debut for the club and netted a brace in a 3-0 win over Southampton. However, Diouf didn't score for over 2 months after this, once again scoring against Southampton in the League Cup. On 8 March 2003, Diouf scored his first league goal in almost 7 months, opening the scoring in a 2-0 win over Bolton. Liverpool's next game was a 1-1 draw against Celtic, in which Diouf spat at a Celtic fan, receiving a 2 match ban and being fined 2 weeks wages, with Liverpool forced to donate £60,000 to a Glasgow charity of Celtic's choice.
Diouf sensationally went the entire of the 2003-04 season without scoring a single goal. This led to the striker being loaned out to Bolton for the 2004-05 season, with the move eventually becoming permanent. Diouf made 80 appearances for Liverpool, scoring just 6 goals.
