Danny Sean Guthrie (born 18 April 1987) is an English footballer who played for Liverpool from 2005-2008. He left Liverpool in 2008 for £2,500,000, joining Newcastle United.
Liverpool career[]
Having previously been part of the Man Utd academy, Guthrie made the switch to Liverpool's youth system after his family moved to Merseyside in 2002. He was promoted to Melwood in 2005, and broke into the first team in the 2006-07 season - coming on as a substitute for Momo Sissoko in the League Cup third round tie against Reading on 25 October 2006. His first start came on 5 December 2006 against Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League group stages.
After this point however, Guthrie's involvement in the Liverpool team was limited and he spent the latter half of the 2006-07 season, and the entirety of the 2007-08 season on loan to Southampton and Bolton respectively. He acknowledged that the competition in Liverpool's midfield would make his playing chances slim saying "Liverpool are very strong in midfield and it's difficult to get a game for a young lad so I made the decision to move on and play games." He subsequently joined Newcastle on 11 July 2008 for £2,500,000.
