Charles-Hubert Itandje (born 2 November 1982) is a former Liverpool goalkeeper. He played for Liverpool from 2007 to 2010 before joining Greek side Atromitos.

Liverpool careerEdit

Itandje was signed on 1 July 2007 from French club Lens on a free transfer, to provide cover for Pepe Reina. Itandje acknowledged that it would be difficult to establish himself as first choice keeper saying "At Liverpool there is a very good keeper who has been there three years. I am clearly going to be number 2. But, there are 60 matches a season and it is planned that I will play the League Cup and FA Cup."

After being resigned to a place on the bench for the start of the 2007-08 season, Itandje finally made his debut on 25 September 2007 against Reading in the League Cup third round. The initial plan turned out to be true, as Itandje played all FA Cup and League Cup ties, while Reina played in the League and Champions League. At the end of the season, Liverpool brought in Diego Cavalieri and Itandje was transfer listed, but rejected a move to Turkish club Galatasaray.

Itandje is perhaps best remembered for his behaviour at the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in April 2009, where he was seen lauging and nudging team mate Damien Plessis. Manager Rafael Benitez condemned his antics as "wholly unacceptable" and he was banned for 14 days, and never played another game for Liverpool.

He was loaned out to Greek club Kavala for the 2009-10 season, and upon his return to Liverpool at the end of the season, he was fifth choice goalkeeper - behind Reina, Jones, Gulacsi and Hansen. It was announced on 8 December 2010 that Itandje would be joining Greek side Atromitos on 1 January 2011 having been released by Liverpool.
