Bobby Lamont Clark (born 7 February 2005) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liverpool. Clark signed from Newcastle in 2021, progressing through the academy before making his senior debut in August 2022. He made his breakthrough into the first-team in the 2023-24 season due to an injury crisis and put in some very impressive showings, including in Liverpool’s EFL Cup final victory. In the summer of 2024, it was confirmed that he had departed for Salzburg in search of more first-team opportunities.

Liverpool career[]

As a youngster, Clark rose through the ranks at the Newcastle academy and was seen as one of their top talents. In August 2021 however, it was confirmed that Liverpool had completed the signing of the youngster, for a fee of around £1,500,000.

Throughout the season, Clark starred for the U18s side, and was rewarded with his first professional contract in February 2022. In the following summer, Clark had his first involvement with the senior team, appearing in friendlies and making an impression.

On 27 August 2022, Clark made his Liverpool debut, coming on as a substitute in the Premier League as the Reds beat Bournemouth 9-0. He made his first start two months later, playing over an hour as Liverpool beat Derby to progress through the EFL Cup.

This however, was the extent of his senior involvement for the 2022-23 season.

2023 was wreaked with injuries for the youngster, forcing him to miss out on pre-season and the first half of the 2023-24 season.

On 7 January 2024, Clark made his first-team comeback, coming on as a late substitute and putting in an assured performance in a 2-0 win away to Arsenal in the FA Cup. With multiple injuries and absentees in midfield, the youngster was afforded a good number of opportunities, frequently coming off the bench and impressing.

On 25 February 2024, Clark came on in the 72nd minute as Liverpool faced Chelsea in the EFL Cup final. The youngster continued to impress, playing the remainder of normal-time plus the entirety of extra-time, winning the corner from which Virgil van Dijk scored the winner, and picking up his first winners medal.

He was rewarded with two consecutive starts, as Liverpool eliminated Southampton in the FA Cup, before picking up a scrappy win away to Nottingham Forest, with Clark making his first Premier League start.

On 14 March 2024, Clark scored his first Liverpool goal, slotting calmly past the keeper in a 6-1 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League. This made him Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer in European football. The youngster also picked up an assist for Mohamed Salah’s effort.

After this however, he would make just one more appearance- a late substitute cameo in a 4-3 defeat at Manchester United, before he would pick up an injury that would rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Clark was not included in the pre-season squad under new manager Arne Slot as he was still recovering from his injury. While absent, rumours began to emerge that Clark would be leaving the club, in search of more first-team action.

On 22 August 2024, it was confirmed that Clark had officially signed for Salzburg, for a reported fee of £10,000,000.

Clark left the club having made 14 appearances, scoring 1 and picking up 2 assists, as well as an EFL Cup winners’ medal.
