Alexis Mac Allister (born 24 December 1998) is an Argentinian international footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Liverpool, signing from Brighton in 2023.
Liverpool career[]
The 2022-23 season was a disappointing one for Liverpool, finishing 5th in the league and failing to win a major trophy. One of the biggest problems was seen to be in midfield, with Jurgen Klopp even stating ‘you were right and I was wrong’, after failing to target a major midfield signing in the summer.
In contrast, the season proved to be an excellent one for Alexis Mac Allister. The midfielder had his breakthrough in a Brighton side that qualified for European football for the first time in the club’s history, and managed 12 goals from midfield. He also played a starring role in Argentina’s World Cup victory, starting and picking up an assist as they beat France in the final.
Towards the end of the season, rumours began to surface of Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder. It became apparent that there was some form of a release clause in his contract, and on 5 June 2023, reports began to come out that he had reached an agreement with Liverpool.
On 8 June 2023, it was officially confirmed that Liverpool had signed Mac Allister, for a reported fee of £35,000,000. The Argentine signed a five-year deal and took the number 10 shirt ahead of the 2023-24 season.
