Liverpool won the 2022 EFL Cup Final, beating Chelsea on penalties on 27 February 2022 at Wembley Stadium. It was Liverpool’s first domestic cup triumph since the 2012 final, and first honour overall since the 2019-20 Premier League.
Despite the 0-0 scoreline the final was seen as an entertaining game, with Liverpool dominating in possession but Chelsea creating the better chance. Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Silva were praised for their stalwart defence performances, with the former receiving the Alan Hardaker Trophy as man-of-the-match.
In the penalty shootout, Liverpool provided a perfect record with all eleven players netting their spot-kicks, before Chelsea’s goalkeeper came up with a decisive miss.

Notes[]
- This was Jurgen Klopp’s first domestic cup triumph, having only previously reached a final in 2016.
- Jordan Henderson and James Milner were the only two members of the squad to have previously won the competition, with Henderson the only one to do so at Liverpool.
- This was Liverpool’s third penalty shootout triumph over Chelsea in as many attempts, with the previous two coming in the 2007 Champions League semi-final, and the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.
- All eleven penalty takers converted their efforts, the only time this has happened in club history.
